Unfortunately, many of us have a genetic predisposition for overlapping or gapped teeth. Others might drink too much coffee or red wine and have a yellowed smile to show for it. Still, others may have chipped a tooth playing baseball. Despite all the things that can go wrong with our smiles, with the help of a skilled cosmetic dentist, everyone can have a great smile.
For years, patients have trusted Dr. Foster with the cosmetic procedures they need to achieve the smile they want and now Dr. Foster and Dr. Dobberstein are bringing that experience to the Franklin area. Dr. Foster began studying and practicing cosmetic dentistry nearly 30 years ago, long before it became a widely recognized dentistry niche. Quality cosmetic dentistry depends not only on the technical skill of the dentist but also his eye for facial composition. Subtlety is key: the best cosmetic dental work should look like no work had ever been done.
Bright, white teeth are the cornerstone of a healthy, beautiful smile. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, stained teeth can come from:
- Poor oral hygiene
- Beverages such as wine, tea, cola, and sports drinks
- Foods such as berries, sauces, candy, and other sweets
Zoom! In-Office Teeth Whitening
As the most in-demand whitening technology out there, Zoom! is clinically proven to whiten teeth up to eight shades. During this in-office procedure, we apply a protective layer to your gums and brush a maximum strength whitening gel onto the surface of your teeth. After activating the gel with a special light, we may repeat the process a couple more times until the desired shade is reached. Variable intensity settings can be customized for each patient, as well as desensitizers that help decrease sensitivity and protects the enamel.
Whitening for Life Program
To help you maintain that dazzling smile after a Zoom! In-office procedure, we will send you home with a set of customized trays and a refill tube of whitening gel when you come in for your regular 6-month checkups. Some conditions do apply and we encourage you to call our office to learn more.
At-Home Teeth Whitening
If you would prefer to brighten your smile in the convenience of your home, we can provide you with a custom-fitted set of whitening trays. With an at-home system, you fill the trays with whitening gel and wear them over your teeth for a predetermined amount of time every day. After about 10 days, your smile will look dramatically whiter!
What are Veneers?
Veneers have become one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic dentistry. They allow us to restore the front surface of teeth using thin shells of highly translucent, exceptionally realistic dental porcelain. Veneers can correct stained, chipped, or gapped teeth. If you qualify for veneers, Dr. Foster and Dr. Dobberstein will prepare your enamel and take impressions of your teeth. We will then create custom-made veneers using our innovative CEREC technology.
Lumineers are a brand of ultra-thin veneers that allow us to remove less of the natural tooth structure. In some cases, no enamel preparation is necessary. This makes Lumineers a conservative solution for people wishing to correct mild cosmetic imperfections or simply achieve a dazzling “Hollywood” smile. The Lumineers placement procedure will require two visits, one for creating impressions and the other for bonding the Lumineers into place.
Ensuring a Custom Fit
Your smile is important to us and we want to make sure you leave our office with veneers that look and feel natural. By molding the outline of your original teeth we can create a custom piece that will fit perfectly in your mouth. We also check for shade so we can blend the new tooth in as much as possible with the rest of your teeth. Often, a teeth whitening system can be applied in conjunction with veneers to that your entire smile looks evenly radiant.
Are Veneers Right for Me?
Only Dr. Foster and Dr. Dobberstein can determine whether your teeth are healthy and strong enough for veneers. If you have significant oral health issues, like untreated tooth decay or gum disease, he will want to address those concerns before proceeding with veneers. He can then decide whether traditional porcelain veneers or Lumineers might be best for you.
Dr. Foster and Dr. Dobberstein perform cosmetic bonding to repair gaps and chipped or cracked teeth. By using tooth-colored material, known as composite resin, he is able to restore your tooth to its natural appearance. The application of composite resin takes just a single visit but can last for years. It is applied in liquid form over the affected tooth and then cured with light.
Bonding is one of the simplest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures we do. As a general rule, single tooth cosmetic bonding procedures can be performed on the same day as your dental visit. For more complex bonding, you may need to return for a second office visit.
Cosmetic bonding is an appropriate solution if:
- Your tooth is cracked or chipped
- You have a decayed tooth
- You have discolored teeth
- You have a large space between two teeth
- You want to change the shape or length of a tooth
The shape and size of teeth can have a large impact on your smile. Large or jagged teeth can crowd the mouth and make it look as though you do not have a straight smile. Contouring can help those who have healthy teeth, but want to perfect their smile. Our contouring method aids to repair the look of your smile by reshaping crooked, chipped, or irregularly shaped teeth.
Dr. Foster or Dr. Dobberstein will first examine your teeth through X-rays to determine if they are strong enough to withstand reshaping. To be eligible for a contouring procedure the tooth needs to be healthy. Because the procedure requires the reduction of enamel, it is important that there is enough healthy enamel left after the shaping to protect against sensitivity.
